Lemon Hand Scrub
Do you need a last minute handmade gift idea that is very simple to make? Well, then this is for you. I love that this scrub is only 3 ingredients and how special it looks in a simple mason jar with a ribbon tied around it. The idea came from Stephanie at Under the Table and Dreaming. This scrub is perfect to leave by your sink in the kitchen and wash your hands with after cooking with garlic or onions. To use, scoop or spoon out desired amount (I used 1 spoonful) and rub over hands for 20-30 seconds. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. It made my hands feel soft for hours after I used it.
You will need 2 1/2 cups of white sugar, 1 cup of olive oil (or sunflower oil) and 4 Tablespoons of lemon juice. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix really well.

You can package this hand scrub in any size jar or container. I used a pint size jar for this one pictured, and then filled up 4 more 1/2 pint size jars with the remaining scrub. You can buy mason jars in so many shapes and sizes at your grocery store. I love that you can get mason jars with silver rings and tops too.
The fun part for me is in the packaging. I decided to keep it simple with a yellow ribbon, piece of twine and a porcelain jelly spoon. The jelly spoons came from The Christmas Tree. I got 4 spoons in a box for $1.69. I swear I am not being paid by them for all this advertising I am doing, I just really love their prices.
I finished it with a scalloped tag on the top. If you don't have a scalloped circle punch, buy one! I use this punch all the time for making labels. Now doesn't that look nice?
How about I just come over and use your punches and awesome crafty things!! I think the boys would all be too busy fussing over Rowan and listening to her yell at them to be interested in what Mommy is doing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea! Making it for the school nurse and teacher aide in Taylar's class!
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea!!! GOnna make some for my pastors wife. JUSt a quick question.. did you use fresh lemon juice or the lemon juice stuff in a bottle?

ReplyDeleteThank for your sweet comments! I really enjoyed making these for the girls I work with. They were nice gifts and so easy to make.
ReplyDeleteI used the lemon juice from the bottle, but you can use fresh lemon juice if you want!
This will start to seperate slightly in the jar, so you will need to stir it before each use.
Totally doing this!! Can't wait to try it - nothing is worse than garlic or onion hands ;) I love, love, love the craft punch! I have one and I use it all the time when I take a meal to someone I can label it real quick with that and it dresses it up so quick! I am with you on the "packaging" part - aren't the details fun?!?!
